Why Use Foam Material to Fabricate Dimensional Letters, Logo or Signs

This article identifies the good qualities and negatives of applying different types of difficult films around foam products, including epoxy, Polyurea, Polyurethane and Rubber-Latex. It explains the big difference between each difficult level solution, and how to choose when to use just one

uncoated foam may also be also fragile for a lot of uses. level products are designed to guard against affect and abrasion. It will protect it from breeze,What Forms of Hard Level Resources May We Use Around Foam? Articles water, snow, water, moisture and sunlight that could otherwise weaken the top, and is intended to supply a defensive shell allowing the merchandise to last longer.

There are lots of different difficult level products and services out there. For our purposes, we like to use Epoxy level, Polyurea level, Rubber-Latex level and Polyurethane level (both soft and hard).

So what is the big difference between each one of these? What are the good qualities and negatives of each and how do we choose when to use just one?

We use Epoxy difficult level for just about any foam item we fabricate wherever the client needs a slim defensive shell / if the merchandise must be located external for a limited length of time (up to 2 month for ex) / for foam products and services that must be put in water such as for instance share letters. The epoxy, common, provides a bright sleek search and a somewhat smooth finish look. It does protect for a limited time but mightn’t last a life-time because it’s thin. Some need sanding and patching after level and ahead of painting for an easier structure finish.,

The epoxy is used by brushing or moving it on the foam. Generally 1-2 coats will do the trick, occasionally a 3rd coat is required for added protection. We allow it to dried completely for approximately 24 hours (it treatments at room heat, most useful at around 75F degrees, but will remedy between 60F-90F as well) , then we sand or perfect or paint with acrylic paint.

It is really a two part process with a glue to hardener mix ratio.

The epoxy is perfect for guarding signals, images, words, props, architectural facades and precast molds. The disadvantage of using epoxy is that upon affect it could split or break, but it is an economical solution.

For a  larger, tougher level, we turn to the Polyurea material (also known as Sleep Liner). That is true if the project will be located outside for an extended time period, if persons will feel it, or if it must last a life-time. It may also be applied as a substitute for fiberglass level, since it is sturdy, strong. And water small

The Polyurea is more expensive compared to epoxy and is a much more complicated software process. It’s generally sprayed on employing a plural element sprayer system. For this method, you must have good experience and training applying the material to be done correctly and it must be sanded ahead of priming and painting. Following software, the sprayer must be cleaned very well otherwise particles may block it and it wouldn’t work, maybe not letting the level material movement out for next use.

The Polyurea material treatments quickly in a subject of moments and is difficult to the feel yet keeps flexible throughout their life. There are lots of tastes of Polyurea – Ranging from very difficult like plastic and brittle to rubber-like. It is a great alternative for treating big materials (we actually apply jet hangers with it and other floorings), it’s water-resistant and can be chosen in a fireplace retardant option.

The drawback is that the material and method are costly, as well as it needs regular machine maintenance.

Polyurea may be sprayed on any material including foam, pockets, cardboard, timber, cement, and metals.

You will find subcategories of the polyurea, such as for instance StyroSpray1000. It achieves a finer coat that is sprayed, applied or rolled on. It is really a cheaper method, yet it may be more leaking and needs more sanding and works best at humid environments.

Another defensive shell we use is Polyurethane coating. It is wonderful for commercial, art-related and amateur projects, and can be obtained as firm or semi-rigid resins. One form of urethane level we like to use is the Rubber-Latex coating.

In cases where we should give a flexible, yet difficult, powerful and affect resilient level, we work with a rubber-latex level finish by brushing it onto the surface. It is truly a flexible form of level (creates a sense of nearly a squashy reversal ball). It ties nicely onto different polyurea types of products, such as for instance EPS foam, cloth, materials, pockets and wood. This level provides area safety, mobility and resistance to UV, scratching and chemicals. It sets nearly immediately, but treatments in a subject of hours (sometimes taking as much as 24 hours to totally cure) and can not be sanded.

There are lots of other forms of films available, such as for instance serum coat, fiberglass, plasters, cement and more. The kind of difficult level we opt for is dependent upon the material and structure to be coated, the form it self (if it’s grooves and indentations that the level products must movement into), the final needed (smooth compared to semi-smooth) and the customer’s budget and change needs for the project.
